Synopsis

A factory worker named Misumi is arrested for killing his boss. He confesses outright, and an almost identical crime from thirty years back drags him toward a death sentence. Lawyer Shigemori takes the defense as pure craft, a job to be done well. Then the certainty starts to crack. Every meeting through the visiting-room glass rearranges the facts, and the truth keeps slipping away exactly when it seems within reach.
Kore-eda, usually the quiet poet of family life, trades the kitchen table for a cold courtroom and refuses to hand you a verdict — guilty or not is left in your hands.
