Synopsis
After the Storm (海よりもまだ深く, 2016) is a Japanese drama from director Hirokazu Kore-eda — watch it online on iFILM. Ryota (Hiroshi Abe) won a literary prize fifteen years ago and has been coasting on that one fact ever since. He works as a private detective now, loses his earnings at the racetrack, and owes back child support to the ex-wife who has moved on without him.
One night a typhoon forces Ryota, his ex-wife Kyoko (Yoko Maki), and their son Shingo to wait out the storm at his elderly mother's small apartment. Kore-eda doesn't manufacture a confrontation — he just traps these people together until the conversations they've been avoiding become unavoidable.
