Synopsis

Carla Behm (Emmanuelle Devos) is a 35-year-old office worker at a real estate firm. Her colleagues look through her. When she's finally allowed a trainee, she picks Paul (Vincent Cassel) straight out of prison — no references, no manners, no filter. What Paul lacks in office etiquette he makes up for in street instinct. What Carla lacks in hearing she makes up for in lip-reading — a skill that quietly pulls both of them into something far more dangerous than paperwork.
Audiard doesn't play this as noir or romance but as something more unsettling: a thriller built on two people society wrote off, finding in each other a strange and genuinely effective partnership. The film took four César Awards, including Best Original Screenplay. Devos is a revelation — her performance says more in silence than most actors manage in a monologue.
