Synopsis
10 Rillington Place (1971) is a British crime drama you can watch online on iFILM, built around one of England's most disturbing real-world miscarriages of justice. Director Richard Fleischer adapted Ludovic Kennedy's landmark true-crime account, casting Richard Attenborough as serial killer John Christie and John Hurt as Timothy Evans, the innocent young tenant who paid for Christie's crimes with his life.
London, the 1940s and 50s. Christie rents rooms in a crumbling terraced house and presents himself as a part-time police officer willing to help desperate women with amateur "medical" advice. What he actually does is methodical and lethal. When Evans' wife Beryl is found dead, Christie manoeuvres the investigation so completely that Evans — barely literate, easily confused — confesses to a murder he did not commit.
Fleischer deliberately strips out any thriller mechanics: you know who the killer is from the opening minutes, and that foreknowledge makes every scene feel like watching a slow-motion catastrophe with no way to stop it. Christie's case became central to the parliamentary debate that ended capital punishment in Britain in 1965. Stream 10 Rillington Place online on iFILM.
