Soylent Green
It's the year 2022. People are still the same. They'll do anything to get what they need. And they need Soylent Green.
Synopsis
Soylent Green (1973) is Richard Fleischer's dystopian thriller you can watch online on iFILM, starring Charlton Heston alongside Edward G. Robinson in his final screen role.
The year is 2022 — not the real one. New York holds forty million people. The greenhouse effect wiped out the seasons, animals are gone, and most of the population survives on Soylent Corporation's colored ration wafers. Detective Thorn is handed the murder of a board member from that very corporation and starts pulling at a thread that unravels something the company has kept buried.
Fleischer built this film on the genuine anxieties of 1973 — the oil crisis, pollution, runaway population growth — and the result aged into a surprisingly accurate portrait of ecological dread. The final line has been quoted and spoofed for fifty years, but it still lands. Robinson's last scene, filmed while he was already dying, gives the movie an emotional weight no script could manufacture. Stream Soylent Green (1973) online on iFILM.
