Synopsis
The Cincinnati Kid (1965) is Norman Jewison's high-stakes poker drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Steve McQueen leads, with Edward G. Robinson, Ann-Margret and Karl Malden alongside him.
The setting is Depression-era New Orleans. Eric "the Kid" Stoner is the sharpest young stud-poker player in the South, and he wants the crown. Trouble is, it already belongs to Lancey "the Man" Howard, an aging master nobody has beaten in years. The two sit down, the bets climb, and the hand turns into a test of nerve where the bluff matters more than the cards.
McQueen against Robinson is two Hollywood generations facing off — the young rebel and the old heavyweight — and it plays out quietly, in close-ups and held silences. Jewison wasn't really filming a card game; he was filming the price of ambition, where winning can cost you everything. Stream The Cincinnati Kid online on iFILM.
