Synopsis
The Rogue's Trial (O Auto da Compadecida 2, 2024) is a Brazilian tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Twenty years after he vanished, the trickster João Grilo strolls back into the dusty town of Taperoá and tracks down his old partner Chicó.
A rumor that Grilo came back from the dead spreads across the backlands fast. Before long the two richest, most powerful politicians in town are fighting over him — each wants the "resurrected" man as their election candidate, betting that public faith will buy votes. Grilo plays his own angle, naturally; behind the wide-eyed grin sits someone who can out-scheme anyone with money. Matheus Nachtergaele and Selton Mello return as the leads, alongside Taís Araújo and screen legend Fernanda Montenegro.
