Synopsis

At the local diner Eric (Dana Andrews) falls hard for waitress Stella (Linda Darnell), but she only has eyes for men with money. So he cooks up a cold scheme: court the quiet, well-off June Mills (Alice Faye) and get at her savings. The plan starts to unravel the moment murder slips into the love triangle.
Preminger shot this right after Laura, and the same noir instincts run through it: Joseph LaShelle's high-contrast camerawork, small-town respectability hiding real rot, a lead you pity and despise at once.
