Synopsis
Angel Face (1953) is a Hollywood noir directed by Otto Preminger — stream it online on iFILM. Ambulance driver Frank Jessup answers a call at a wealthy estate and meets Diane Tremayne: composed, soft-voiced, and precise in a way that should register as a warning. It doesn't, not fast enough.
Jean Simmons plays Diane as controlled calculation — every scene becomes a performance within a performance. Robert Mitchum brings his characteristic stillness to Frank, a man who senses the mechanism closing around him and can't pull back. Preminger confines the action to one house and a small cast, letting close framing catch what no character admits out loud. RKO released it to modest notices in 1953; the reassessment took decades.
