Synopsis
Death Wish 4: The Crackdown (1987) is an American action thriller directed by J. Lee Thompson that you can watch online on iFILM, with Charles Bronson reprising architect-turned-vigilante Paul Kersey for the fourth time.
The trigger this time is an overdose — the daughter of Paul's girlfriend dies from bad drugs, and Paul tracks down the street dealer responsible. Then a note arrives at his apartment: someone knows what he did, and wants to meet. The man at the other end turns out to be an elderly newspaper publisher who lost his own daughter the same way; he hands Paul a dossier, a weapons cache and a mission: wipe out both drug cartels running Los Angeles before they can regroup. Paul works through them methodically. The twist, when it comes, is that the man who set all this in motion had his own reasons.
Bronson was 66 during production and the film doesn't hide it, but that slightly weathered quality suits a character defined by accumulating losses. The setup is formulaic, but the reveal about the real villain has more teeth than the previous sequels managed. Solid late-80s genre filmmaking that doesn't overstay its 99 minutes.
