Synopsis
Casino Royale (1967) is a British-American spy spoof you can watch online on iFILM — a film with five directors, an absurd budget and almost no coherent plot. John Huston, Val Guest, Ken Hughes, Robert Parrish and Joseph McGrath each helmed their own segment, and the results collide spectacularly.
The real Sir James Bond, played by David Niven, is dragged out of retirement. To confuse the enemy, British intelligence assigns the code name 007 to multiple agents at once. Peter Sellers faces off against Le Chiffre (Orson Welles) at the baccarat table; Woody Allen, as Bond's bumbling nephew, manages to threaten the entire planet. Ursula Andress, William Holden and Jean-Paul Belmondo round out the cast of celebrity cameos.
This Casino Royale has nothing to do with the Eon Productions franchise — it was made by Columbia Pictures using rights that Broccoli never secured. Released the same year as the official Bond series was at full steam, it remains a curio of 1960s big-studio chaos, watchable less as a spy film and more as an extremely expensive variety show.
