Synopsis
Rhinestone (1984) is a country-music comedy from director Bob Clark you can watch online on iFILM. A country star bets her own contract that she can turn the next stranger she meets into a singing sensation.
Jake (Dolly Parton) brags that she can make a performer out of anybody, and the club owner calls her bluff. The somebody she gets stuck with is Nick (Sylvester Stallone), a loudmouth New York cabbie who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. She has two weeks to drag him onto the stage of a fancy Manhattan country club without getting laughed out of town. Strip away the cowboy boots and it's basically Shaw's Pygmalion.
The real draw is Stallone doing his own singing and clowning around well outside his Rocky-and-Rambo lane, opposite Parton, who wrote the film's songs herself. It's one of those cheerfully ridiculous '80s comedies that runs on the leads' charm rather than the plot's logic. Stream Rhinestone (1984) online on iFILM.
