Synopsis
The Garden of Sinners: The Hollow Shrine (2008) is the fourth chapter of the Type-Moon anime cycle, and you can watch it online on iFILM. June 1998: after two years in a coma, Shiki Ryougi wakes up with amnesia and no real sense that she is even alive.
This is the quietest film in the series — barely any action, just a slow, painful return to herself. The wizard Touko Aozaki, who runs a studio called Garan no Dou, comes to check on her; her steadfast friend Mikiya Kokuto stays close; and strange figures begin reaching for Shiki out of the void. Maaya Sakamoto voices the lead, and her restrained performance carries the whole 45 minutes.
The chapter quietly explains where Shiki's Mystic Eyes of Death Perception come from and fills a gap the louder entries leave open. It's really one for viewers already inside The Garden of Sinners — a newcomer will find the short runtime fragmentary, while a fan gets the missing piece.
