Crusade (Season 1)

Crusade (1999) is the science-fiction series you can watch online on iFILM. Created by J. Michael Straczynski as a spin-off of Babylon 5, it picks up in the year 2267, just after the TV movie A Call to Arms.

The alien Drakh have seeded Earth's atmosphere with a nanovirus — an engineered plague that will wipe out all life on the planet within five years. There is one slim opening: the virus was rushed into use and adapts to human biology slowly, buying humanity exactly that much time. So the destroyer Excalibur and its mismatched crew are sent deep into uncharted space to find anything that might yield a cure. Aboard are Captain Gideon, a telepath, an archaeologist and a techno-mage, each guarding secrets and each wrestling with the show's own question: who do you serve, and who do you trust? Gary Cole, Daniel Dae Kim and Peter Woodward lead the cast.

The story stops after thirteen episodes — TNT pulled the plug before it even aired, so Excalibur never got its ending. Even so, fans of Straczynski's universe prize it for the darker tone and the sharp, philosophical dialogue that was his trademark. Stream Crusade online on iFILM.
