Synopsis
How the Universe Works (2014), Season 3 is a space documentary you can watch online on iFILM — nine episodes that keep returning to endings: how stars, planets and the cosmos itself die.
It opens by chasing a single beam of light out of the Sun's core, a 430,000-mile fight against gravity and magnetism. From there the scale swings wide and narrow by turns — the eventual death of everything, then the very first second after the Big Bang, the instant that already locks in the fate of the universe. Jupiter gets reframed as both wrecker and guardian of Earth. Other episodes hunt for life on Saturn's moons, line up the "weapons of mass extinction" of supervolcanoes, asteroid strikes and ice ages, and ask whether a supermassive black hole built the Milky Way.
The last two entries look forward. Earth won't stay habitable forever, so the season closes on the search for a second Earth and on the propulsion work that might one day carry us to other stars.
