Synopsis

How the Universe Works (2010), Season 4 is the Science Channel documentary you can watch online on iFILM — eight episodes that take apart the cosmos one piece at a time.

The opener starts somewhere odd: an ordinary car, whose iron and copper were forged in dying stars. From there the scale keeps climbing. Venus stands in as a grim preview of where Earth could be heading, the supermassive black hole at the heart of the Milky Way gets cracked open, and the edge of the solar system turns out to be full of magnetic bubbles millions of miles across. Other episodes chase harder questions — where the oceans came from, how lifeless chemistry once became life. The finale digs into magnetism, the quiet force holding it all together.

Scientists carry the narration themselves, no booming voice-over, and that restraint is the point. Season 4 runs steadier than the early ones, with fresher findings on the Moon and the origin of water. A solid entry for anyone who likes astrophysics without the lecture.
