Synopsis
Season 9 of How the Universe Works (2010) brings eleven new episodes you can watch online on iFILM. This run is built around recent discoveries rather than the old questions about how time began.
It opens with a trip to the M87 supermassive black hole — the first one ever caught in a real photograph — and asks how it grew so vast and what it does to its galaxy. After that, scientists set a craft down on a comet, send the Parker probe diving through the Sun's atmosphere, and look at microscopic organisms that might be cousins to alien life. The middle stretch turns to white dwarfs as a key to reading the cosmos and the coming collision between the Milky Way and Andromeda.
