Synopsis
Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955) is a classic romantic melodrama you can watch online on iFILM. In early-1950s Hong Kong, a widowed Eurasian doctor crosses paths with a married American war correspondent.
Han Suyin (Jennifer Jones) holds tight to her work and her late husband's memory; Mark Elliott (William Holden) is married more in name than in feeling. Their affair unfolds in a city about to be swallowed by history — revolution across the border, the Korean War edging closer. Love keeps losing its arguments to duty, ancestry and the judgment of strangers.
Henry King directed it from Han Suyin's autobiographical novel. The title song outlived the picture itself and carried off an Oscar, with further statuettes landing for the score and the costumes. If you have a soft spot for old-Hollywood romance, postcard Hong Kong and a tragic streak, this evening belongs to you. Stream Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955) online on iFILM.
