Synopsis
The Honeymoon Killers (1970) is a stark crime drama you can watch online on iFILM — the only film opera composer Leonard Kastle ever directed. It draws on the real Lonely Hearts murders that filled American tabloids in the late 1940s.
Martha Beck, a heavyset nurse worn down by loneliness, answers a correspondence-club letter and falls hard for the smooth-talking Ray Fernandez. Trouble is, seducing and robbing lonely women is how Ray pays the bills. Martha doesn't walk away. She poses as his sister, rides along from one victim to the next, and finds her jealousy harder and harder to swallow. Shot in cold, near-documentary black and white, with no score to soften the edges.
Shirley Stoler and Tony Lo Bianco make the couple genuinely unnerving, and François Truffaut once named this among his favorite American films. A grimy, unglamorous true-crime piece for viewers who like their noir mean. Stream The Honeymoon Killers (1970) online on iFILM.
