Synopsis
Uzumaki (2024) is an anime horror series you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Junji Ito's cult manga. It unfolds in the remote Japanese town of Kurouzu-cho, where the residents fall one by one under a strange obsession: the spiral. A curl of smoke, a snail's shell, a pattern in the skin — a shape no one can look away from, slowly driving the town insane.
High-schooler Kirie and her boyfriend Shuichi are the first to sense that something is deeply wrong. The early signs read like coincidence. Then bodies start to twist, literally. The show works through mounting body horror rather than jump scares, with the creeping dread that there's no way out — every road out of Kurouzu-cho seems to bend back on itself.
Director Hiroshi Nagahama renders Ito's artwork in stark black-and-white animation that keeps the manga's hatching, while Colin Stetson supplies the queasy score. Four tight episodes, dense as one long nightmare. Not for the squeamish, but essential for anyone hunting genuine Japanese body horror. Stream Uzumaki online on iFILM.
