Synopsis
Ali's Wedding (2017) is an Australian comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Osamah Sami's memoir Good Muslim Boy — Sami also stars as the lead.
Ali is the eldest son of a well-loved Melbourne imam, good-natured and completely unable to disappoint his father. When he fails to get into medicine, he tells his family he got in. One lie requires another. Now he's committed to an arranged engagement while in love with someone else entirely. Don Hany plays the father — warm enough that his scenes sting even when they're funny. Helana Sawires plays the woman Ali actually wants.
Director Jeffrey Walker keeps it grounded in the Iraqi-Australian community without leaning on stereotype. Funnier than it has any right to be, and specific enough to feel true. Stream Ali's Wedding on iFILM.
