Synopsis
Shenandoah (1965) is a Civil War western you can watch online on iFILM, with James Stewart anchoring it as a Virginia farmer who refuses to pick a side. Director Andrew V. McLaglen sets the story in the Shenandoah Valley, where widower Charlie Anderson works the land with his six sons and one daughter.
Charlie owns no slaves and wants no part of the fighting between North and South. The war comes anyway. His youngest boy is mistaken for a Confederate soldier and hauled off by Union troops, and the old man who has dodged the conflict for years finally hitches up a wagon to go find his child — straight through scorched fields and crowded field hospitals.
Stewart plays him as a stubborn father, not a gunslinger, a man losing his family one by one no matter which uniform does the taking. The film skips grand battle spectacle for quieter grief, and its closing scene in a small country church lands harder than any shootout. Stream Shenandoah (1965) online on iFILM.
