Synopsis
The Rockford Files (1974–1980) is the American detective series you can watch online on iFILM. Jim Rockford is a private eye who once did prison time for a crime he didn't commit, and now charges two hundred dollars a day for the cases nobody else will touch.
His office is a trailer parked on a Malibu beach, and he'd rather talk his way out of trouble than fight — though he takes plenty of punches anyway. James Garner plays him with no heroic gloss: he grumbles, dodges, borrows money, and still untangles the messiest jobs. Around him are his cranky father Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, his slippery ex-con buddy Angel, and a lawyer who keeps bailing him out. Each episode opens on that famous answering-machine gag, and it sets the whole tone.
Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell built the show by turning the genre inside out: instead of an untouchable tough guy, a charming underdog who'd sooner run than draw a gun.
