Synopsis
Jean-Paul Belmondo races across Revolutionary France in The Married Couple of the Year Two (Les Mariés de l'an deux, 1971), a costume adventure-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It's directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, who would later make Cyrano de Bergerac.
Quick-witted Nicolas Philibert has built a new life across the Atlantic and is about to marry a wealthy shipowner's daughter. There's one catch: a lawful wife, Charlotte, still waiting back in France. He returns home for a quick divorce and lands in 1793 — guillotines, arrests and revolution everywhere. While he hunts for Charlotte (Marlène Jobert), other suitors are already circling her, and his old jealousy flares back to life. Chases, disguises, duels and gunfire pile into one breathless dash.
This is Belmondo at full tilt: charm, his own stunts, and comic swagger against a backdrop of real upheaval. Laura Antonelli and Sami Frey round out the cast. A swashbuckler for anyone who enjoys The Magnificent One and vintage French farce. Stream The Married Couple of the Year Two online on iFILM.
