Synopsis
Angélique (2013) is a lavish period romance with an adventure streak, and you can watch online on iFILM. Mid-17th-century France. A young noblewoman, Angélique, is married off against her will to the wealthy Count Joffrey de Peyrac — a limping, scarred man the locals whisper about as a sorcerer. She arrives at the wedding full of dread and leaves it with something she never expected.
Beneath the count's frightening surface is a scholar, a wit, and a man of honor, and the chill between the newlyweds slowly catches fire. Then the marriage draws the wrong eyes: King Louis XIV, envious of a subject's fortune and happiness, has Peyrac thrown into the Bastille to await the scaffold. Left alone, Angélique chooses to fight for her husband to the last — with unlikely help from Nicolas, the leader of Paris's underworld, who has loved her since childhood. This is a fresh adaptation of Anne Golon's celebrated novels, directed by Ariel Zeitoun, with Nora Arnezeder and Tomer Sisley in the leads. Best for anyone who loves courtly intrigue and a heroine who rescues rather than waits to be rescued. Stream Angélique (2013) online on iFILM.
