Synopsis
The Armstrong Lie (2013) is Alex Gibney's documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Gibney set out to film something else entirely: cycling icon Lance Armstrong's 2009 return to the sport that made him famous.
Then the story collapsed. Seven Tour de France titles turned out to rest on years of organized doping, and Armstrong finally said it out loud, sitting across from Oprah Winfrey. Gibney goes back through his own footage with new eyes — and the film becomes as much about the director who got played as about the rider who looked into the lens and lied.
What emerges is an anatomy of a lie rather than a sports recap: how charisma, money and the faith of millions keep a myth afloat long after the truth is known. Gibney, an Oscar winner for his documentary work, doesn't hand down a verdict — he watches his subject deliver one on himself. Stream The Armstrong Lie online on iFILM.
