Synopsis
The Liberator (Libertador, 2013) is a sweeping historical drama about Simón Bolívar that you can watch online on iFILM. Édgar Ramírez stars as the man who set half a continent against the Spanish crown.
The story traces him from a wealthy Caracas heir, broken by the early death of his wife, to a general whose campaigns covered twice the ground Alexander the Great ever conquered. Bolívar burns for one free South America and pays for it in betrayals, exile and brutal marches across the Andes. María Valverde, Danny Huston and Iwan Rheon fill out the world around him.
Directed by Alberto Arvelo, the film carries an original score by conductor Gustavo Dudamel, whose orchestral muscle gives the battles their weight. Venezuela put it forward as its submission for the Best Foreign Language Oscar.
