Duelist

Duelist (형사, 2005) is a Korean action film by director Lee Myung-se you can watch online on iFILM. Ha Ji-won plays Nam-soon, an undercover detective tracking counterfeit currency in eighteenth-century Joseon. Kang Dong-won is her quarry — a pale, silent swordsman the palace conspirators call Sad Eyes.

Their every confrontation doubles as an impossible courtship. She is supposed to bring him down; instead each duel pulls them closer. Senior detective Ahn, played by Ahn Sung-ki, watches the situation unravel from the sidelines. The counterfeit ring turns out to reach further than anyone expected, but the film is really about two people who cannot stop meeting with blades drawn.

Lee Myung-se shoots action the way other directors shoot ballet — slow, geometric, deliberate — making Duelist one of the more visually singular entries in Korean genre cinema. Stream it online on iFILM.
