Synopsis
Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023) is a Korean war epic you can watch online on iFILM. It's December 1598, the seventh year of the war with Japan, and Admiral Yi Sun-shin is heading into his final battle at sea.
Learning that the Japanese mean to slip out of Korea fast after Toyotomi Hideyoshi's death, Yi refuses to let them leave unscathed. He leads a combined Joseon-and-Ming fleet to bottle up the strait and finish the invaders for good. But the Ming commander Chen Lin is bribed into lifting the blockade, and the Satsuma lord Shimazu sails in to pull the trapped army out. What follows is one long night of fire — hundreds of ships, boarding actions, and cannon blasts that barely let up.
Director Kim Han-min caps his trilogy about the admiral here, after The Admiral: Roaring Currents (2014) and Hansan: Rising Dragon (2022). He hands the climactic clash an enormous, near-unbroken stretch of screen time, keeping the camera locked inside the fighting for a long run of the film. Kim Yun-seok plays Yi with a weary, fatalistic steel. For anyone who loves big historical cinema about war at sea, this is the one. Stream Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023) online on iFILM.
