Synopsis
Suburban Girl (2007) is a romantic drama you can watch online on iFILM. Brett Eisenberg has come from a New Jersey suburb to make it in the New York publishing world. She's a junior editor with big ambitions and not nearly enough confidence to match them.
Her new boss is overbearing and exacting, so the bright spot becomes a romance with Archie Knox, a charming old-school editor twice her age. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Brett, Alec Baldwin plays Archie, and he carries plenty of baggage of his own: drinking, diabetes and a strained bond with his grown daughter. Determined to fix him, Brett turns for advice to her own father, who is gravely ill. What starts as a light story about the city of dreams slowly turns wistful.
Marc Klein's film is adapted from Melissa Bank's stories in The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing. It's a small mood piece about growing up, unequal love and the price of taking on someone else's problems. A good fit for fans of intimate New York dramas and the pairing of Gellar and Baldwin.
