What the Health
The health film that health organizations don't want you to see.
Synopsis
What the Health (2017) is a US documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn — the same duo behind Cowspiracy. This time they turn the lens on the health industry, and what they claim to find is a tangle of corporate funding, buried research, and advice that no one seems keen to give.
Andersen makes calls, visits websites, and requests interviews from leading health nonprofits, repeatedly asking why their dietary guidance seems to sidestep what some researchers argue about meat, dairy, and chronic disease. Doctors and scientists he films — including cardiologists and dietitians — assert that conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease are strongly linked to everyday food choices. The organizations, Andersen contends, stay quiet because their major donors have a stake in the status quo.
The film landed on Netflix and sparked immediate controversy. A number of its claims were challenged by scientists and fact-checkers; the filmmakers have a clear point of view and argue it hard. That's worth knowing going in — this is advocacy filmmaking, not a peer-reviewed paper, and it works best as a provocation. Stream What the Health (2017) online on iFILM.
