The Biggest Little Farm
200 acres of barren farmland, and a dream to harvest in harmony with nature.
Synopsis
The Biggest Little Farm (2019) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. John and Molly Chester trade a cramped Los Angeles apartment for 200 acres of dead, dried-out soil and a plan to build a farm from scratch.
Over the next several years they rebuild the land around full biodiversity — hundreds of plant varieties, chickens, ducks, sheep, a pig named Emma, and the dog that started it all. Nature pushes back hard: pests swarm, coyotes raid the flock, droughts give way to floods. Every fix breeds a fresh problem, and the farm has to grow into a working ecosystem.
Chester is a wildlife cinematographer by trade, and he filmed this over roughly eight years — which is why the footage outshines most nature docs. It's eco storytelling without the guilt trip: calm, lovely, and quietly convinced that balance is possible. Easy to watch with the family.
