The Naked Director (全裸監督, 2019) is a Netflix Japan series you can watch online on iFILM. Set in the neon-lit chaos of 1980s Japan — bubble economy, VHS boom, everyone hustling — it follows the real-life story of Tooru Muranishi (Takayuki Yamada), a perpetually broke salesman who decides that the adult video industry is his way out.

The show is adapted from a biography of Muranishi, and it commits to treating him as a genuinely complicated figure: not a hero, not a cautionary tale. He blunders, schemes, alienates people who care about him, picks fights with yakuza distribution networks, and keeps restarting from zero. The series tracks his rise across the decade — the pirate operations, the run-ins with censorship law, the moments when his stubborn vision suddenly worked — with the energy of a gangster drama pointed at an unlikely genre.
