Lola and the Sea

Lola and the Sea (Lola vers la mer, 2019) is a Belgian-French drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Laurent Micheli. Eighteen-year-old Lola is transgender and has been estranged from her father Philippe for two years — since the day he threw her out of the house.

Her mother's death forces a reunion. Philippe is driving to the Belgian coast to scatter her ashes, as she wished. Lola shows up uninvited. The two of them, unable to be in the same room, now share a car for a long, quiet journey neither asked for. Mya Bollaers makes her screen debut here — raw and completely unaffected. Benoît Magimel plays the father not as a villain but as a man too rigid to bend toward someone he once knew.
