Falling

Falling (2020) is a Canadian-British drama you can watch online on iFILM — and a genuine directorial debut from Viggo Mortensen, who also wrote the script and appears on screen. The story is deceptively simple: an aging farmer named Willis moves from his rural life to stay with his son John in Southern California. Two men who share blood and almost nothing else.

Willis, played by Lance Henriksen, is sharp-tongued, bigoted and utterly unable to bend toward anyone else's reality. John, Mortensen's character, absorbs it — holding his marriage together, keeping the peace, trying to remember the man his father used to be. The film cuts back and forth through time, showing the family's fractures without explaining them away.

Mortensen made something deliberately uncomfortable: a portrait of a difficult man told with patience rather than judgment. Henriksen's performance carries the whole film. Stream Falling (2020) online on iFILM.
