Synopsis
"Where the Green Ants Dream" (Wo die grünen Ameisen träumen, 1984) is a Werner Herzog drama from Australia — watch online on iFILM. A mining corporation moves in to drill for uranium in the desert. The Aboriginal elders refuse to leave.
Their reason is not symbolic. This is the place where the green ants go to sleep, and disturbing their dreams would bring catastrophe down on the world. The company's lawyers have never had to argue against a cosmology before. What follows plays out in courtrooms and open desert — Wandjuk Marika and Roy Marika as the elders, Ray Barrett as the geologist who ends up between two worlds he can't reconcile.
Herzog filmed the Australian landscape and the people who belong to it without softening either side. The two world views here are genuinely incompatible, and the film doesn't resolve that — because it can't. Stream "Where the Green Ants Dream" (1984) online on iFILM.
