Synopsis
Bloody Oranges (Oranges sanguines, 2021) is a French horror-tinged black comedy you can watch online on iFILM, in which Jean-Christophe Meurisse braids several stories into one nasty night.
One evening links a broke retired couple who'll do anything to win a ballroom dance prize, an economy minister under investigation for tax evasion, a teenage girl about to cross paths with a dangerous stranger, and a young lawyer clawing his way up the ladder. The threads inch toward each other, then come off the leash. Denis Podalydès, Blanche Gardin and Lilith Grasmug head the cast.
Meurisse comes out of improv theater, and you can hear it — the dialogue is barbed and the actors play right at the edge. The film lurches from drawing-room satire into genuine cruelty, so take that "Warning: Naughty Comedy!" tagline at face value.
