Synopsis
Magnetic Beats (Les Magnétiques, 2021) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM. A small provincial town, the early 1980s. Shy Philippe lives in his older brother Jérôme's shadow, running a pirate radio station out of their dad's garage.
The airwaves are the only place Philippe feels fully alive — he reads music and the broadcast better than anyone around him. Then the draft papers arrive and ship him off to West Berlin. He's set on keeping the signal going, yet he can already sense that his world — friends, the garage, the tapes, the girl — is quietly coming apart behind him.
Vincent Maël Cardona's first feature took home France's César for Best Debut. Thimotée Robart and Marie Colomb star, and rather than a nostalgic jukebox montage you get a precise portrait of a generation saying goodbye to vinyl and pirate frequencies.
