Synopsis
Les rayons et les ombres (The Rays and Shadows, 2026) is a French historical drama — watch it online on iFILM. Director Xavier Giannoli — whose Illusions perdues swept French cinema awards in 2021 — returns with a nearly four-hour portrait of Occupation-era Paris, led by Jean Dujardin and August Diehl.
Jean is a French newspaper man; Otto, his closest friend, a German deeply in love with French culture. Before the war, they shared a belief that Europe could be held together. The war made them each choose. Jean became a press baron who backed collaboration openly. Otto arrived as the Reich's ambassador in Paris. Jean's daughter Corinne, midway through a promising film career, got caught between these two men — and between two versions of France that could not coexist.
Giannoli isn't interested in clean moral lines. At close to three and a half hours, the film earns its length through slow accumulation — choices made under pressure, compromises that harden into identity. Stream Les rayons et les ombres online on iFILM.
