Synopsis
Fort Apache, the Bronx (1981) is a crime drama with Paul Newman you can watch online on iFILM. The cops of the 41st Precinct in the South Bronx call their station "Fort Apache" — a besieged outpost in a burned-out neighborhood where the streets outside mean arson, robbery and heroin, and the walls inside hold exhaustion and a code of silence.
Newman plays Murphy, a veteran officer eighteen years on the job who wears a cynic's mask over a man who still believes in something like justice. His younger partner Corelli, played by Ken Wahl, hasn't lost his idealism yet. A new captain, Connolly (Ed Asner), wants clean arrest numbers no matter the cost. When a rookie throws a kid off a rooftop, Murphy faces a choice: keep quiet with the rest of the house or turn on his own. Danny Aiello plays a colleague who treats the badge as a free pass, and Pam Grier a nurse whose story ends with brutal suddenness.
Director Daniel Petrie made not a chase picture but a portrait of a district the state abandoned and the people holding the line there day after day. The film drew protests from local residents over how bleak it painted the area — and that same honesty is its strength. Stream Fort Apache, the Bronx (1981) online on iFILM.
