Synopsis
Even Angels Eat Beans (Anche gli angeli mangiano fagioli, 1973) is an Italian comedy action film directed by Enzo Barboni — watch online on iFILM. Giuliano Gemma and Bud Spencer play Charlie and Sonny, two thoroughly useless would-be crooks trying to make it in Depression-era Chicago, where organised crime is the only growth industry.
The pair land a spot in the crew of mob boss Angelo, nicknamed "The Smile" thanks to a facial paralysis that keeps his expression frozen in a permanent grin. Their job is to shake people down. The trouble: whenever they get the chance, they end up helping the victims instead. Every scheme collapses into slapstick, every escape owes more to dumb luck than any plan.
Barboni shot the whole thing without the benefit of stunt doubles or digital tricks — just Spencer's fists and a cheerfully chaotic energy that the Italian genre cinema of that era did better than anyone.
