Synopsis
Farewell (2009) is a French spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM, built around one of the most damaging intelligence leaks of the late Soviet years.
Moscow, the early 1980s. KGB colonel Sergei Grigoriev hands over classified files — not for money, not under threat, but because he wants the whole apparatus to collapse. His contact is Pierre Froment, an ordinary French engineer with no training and no appetite for espionage. Through that fragile link, proof reaches Mitterrand and then Reagan that Soviet agents have spent years siphoning military and scientific research out of the West.
Director Emir Kusturica plays Grigoriev as a heavy, weary man carrying too much; Guillaume Canet is Froment. Christian Carion skips the car chases for a slow, tightening drama about two men gambling with their families over someone else's war. Willem Dafoe and Fred Ward turn up on the American side. The real figure behind it was colonel Vladimir Vetrov, whose dossier inspired the script. Stream Farewell online on iFILM.
