Synopsis
Born Free (1966) is a family adventure drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director James Hill shot on location across the Kenyan savanna, adapting naturalist Joy Adamson's autobiographical bestseller about a very particular lioness.
The heart of the story is Elsa, an orphaned cub taken in by game warden George Adamson and his wife Joy. They raise her by hand and grow to love her like a child — but a hard question waits at the end of every easy day: a tame lion belongs either in a zoo cage or back in the wild, and the second path means teaching her to hunt and survive on her own. Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers play the couple, with real lions sharing the frame.
The film became a classic about the bond between people and animals, and it picked up two Oscars — both for John Barry's music, including the title song that the world has hummed ever since. It's warm, genuinely gentle cinema, perfect for family viewing with kids or anyone who loves animals. Stream Born Free (1966) online on iFILM.
