Synopsis
Fantozzi Retires (Fantozzi va in pensione, 1988) is an Italian comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Neri Parenti and starring Paolo Villaggio as the most beleaguered office drone in cinema history. Thirty years under the thumb of the MegaCorporation are over. Ugo Fantozzi is finally free. For about five minutes.
Retirement turns out to be a fresh catalogue of disasters. Grocery runs with his wife Pina go sideways. Babysitting his granddaughter Uga ends predictably. A trip to Venice, a stab at golf, a doomed attempt to win over the eternal Miss Silvani — none of it goes to plan. By the end, Fantozzi forges documents just to get his old desk back. Milena Vukotic as the long-suffering Pina and Anna Mazzamauro as Silvani are as sharp as ever alongside Villaggio's genius for slow-burning humiliation.
Fantozzi is a fixture of Italian popular culture, the everyman crushed by bureaucracy and his own bad luck. This entry in the series is one of the funnier ones — partly because the absurdity of retirement mirrors the absurdity of working life almost perfectly. Stream Fantozzi Retires online on iFILM.
