Synopsis
Painless (Insensibles, 2012) is a Spanish-French horror drama directed by Juan Carlos Medina — watch it online on iFILM. The tagline says it plainly: "Pain is their medicine." Àlex Brendemühl plays David, a prominent neurosurgeon dealing with a degenerative condition that has no clean diagnosis and no obvious cure.
His search for answers pulls him into a buried chapter of history: children born without the ability to feel pain, isolated in a facility somewhere in wartime and post-war Spain. What happened to them connects to David's present in ways that grow darker the further he digs. The film alternates between his clinical investigation and flashback sequences that reconstruct what was done — and by whom — in the name of science.
Medina's approach is slow and deliberate, much closer to mystery than to jump-scare horror. The period sections carry real atmosphere, and the medical-ethical undercurrent gives the story weight beyond the genre mechanics. For viewers drawn to European horror that prioritizes dread over noise, this one delivers. Watch Painless (2012) on iFILM.
