Twelve-year-old Simon (Kacey Mottet Klein) lives with his unemployed sister Louise (Léa Seydoux) at the foot of an expensive ski mountain. His solution to permanent poverty is simple: ride the lifts each morning, pocket helmets, goggles and gloves from careless wealthy guests, sell them roadside by afternoon. What lifts the film above a straight survival story is the relationship between Simon and Louise — something between mutual dependence and something harder to name, which slowly becomes the actual subject.
