Synopsis
Jodhaa Akbar (2008) is an Indian historical epic directed by Ashutosh Gowariker — watch online on iFILM. Hrithik Roshan plays the Mughal emperor Akbar the Great and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Jodha, a Rajput princess. Their marriage is political from the start: an alliance brokered to hold two worlds together, not a love match.
The film runs three and a half hours and earns most of them. Gowariker traces how two strangers — a Muslim emperor and a Hindu princess in sixteenth-century India — move from suspicion and formal distance toward something more complicated. The arguments over religion and sovereignty feel lived-in, not decorative. Sonu Sood delivers a sharp performance as the antagonist working to keep the union from taking root.
The battle sequences are staged on a genuinely large scale, and the choreography by Saroj Khan grounds the musical moments in the emotional logic of the story rather than spectacle for its own sake. Jodhaa Akbar picked up multiple Filmfare Awards and reached international theatres far beyond the usual Bollywood circuit. Stream Jodhaa Akbar (2008) online on iFILM.
