Synopsis
Swades (2004) is an Indian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Shah Rukh Khan plays Mohan Bhargava, a NASA project scientist overseeing a satellite program in Washington who travels back to the rural village of Charanpur to bring his childhood nanny to America with him.
What he finds stops him cold. No electricity grid. A collapsing water system. A schoolteacher named Geeta — his first love — trying to hold things together alone. Director Ashutosh Gowariker, who had just made Lagaan, refuses to cast Mohan as a returning hero. The film watches him get uncomfortable, make one modest practical decision, then another. That measured rhythm is the point — the story is about what one person actually does when they decide not to look away. A. R. Rahman composed the score.
