Synopsis
April 9th (9. april, 2015) is a Danish war drama by Roni Ezra you can watch online on iFILM. When German forces rolled across the southern border one spring dawn in 1940, a platoon of bicycle troops was first to meet them.
Second Lieutenant Sand wakes his men before sunrise and gets a brutal order: slow the advancing columns long enough for the rest of the army to react. Rifles, two machine guns and pushbikes against motorized infantry pouring inland — the math is hopeless and everyone knows it. Pilou Asbæk plays the officer who keeps the squad moving even as the situation collapses around them. Lars Mikkelsen turns up on the far side, calculating his own next move.
It was one of the shortest campaigns of the war; Denmark's defence folded in a matter of hours. Ezra skips the sweeping battle canvas for a cramped, ground-level view — mud, panic, orders that land too late.
