Synopsis
Two Irish villages, two gangs of boys, and a feud that has to be settled by dinnertime — War of the Buttons (1994) is the family adventure to watch online on iFILM. John Roberts moves Louis Pergaud's beloved French novel to the green hills of Ireland and lets the kids run wild.
The lads of Ballydowse and the rival hamlet next door go at each other like soldiers, but the spoils of victory are buttons. Strip an enemy of his buttons, belt and laces and you send him home half-dressed, straight into a parental hiding — the worst punishment a boy can imagine. At the heart of it is Fabian, a poor farmer's son beaten for the slightest slip, who runs off and plots a way to outsmart the whole opposing army.
Familiar Irish faces fill the adult roles — Liam Cunningham and Colm Meaney — but the picture belongs to the children, whose schoolyard war quietly turns into a lesson about pride, loyalty and the cost of rebellion. It's warm, faintly mischievous filmmaking for a family night, never preachy or sugar-coated. Stream War of the Buttons (1994) online on iFILM.
